UNIT 3: ANIMAL KINGDOM
UNIT SUMMARY
In this unit, pupils will review and extend their knowledge of animals. They will learn about different types of vertebrates and invertebrates. At the beginning of the unit, pupils will revise different animals and how they can be classified. This subject area is covered in the opening illustration with the help of the course characters, Carla and Alex, who are on a school trip to the wetlands. The school trip continues in the story and, on their return to school, Alex and Carla carry out a School trip project to review the different animals they have seen.
These opening pages are designed to test pupils’ prior knowledge and ease them into the subject matter of the unit, provoking interest and participation. They will move on to study, in depth, mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish. Pupils will study areas such as the appearance, nutrition, respiration and reproduction of these groups. They will also be introduced to different categories of invertebrates.
This is a new area of study for the pupils and one that requires a high level of language and knowledge acquisition. Therefore, the aim of this unit should be to introduce pupils to the subject matter, encouraging the pupils to compare and contrast different animal groups.

Los chic@s de Tercero de Primaria realizaron talleres en la Feria del libro:"Yo soy así". También disfrutaron de la visita de un gran escritor, Ricardo Gómez, con el que compartieron juegos, anécdotas y preguntas, algunas de ellas muy interesantes y divertidas. La lectura es muy importante para pequeños y mayores, desde el cole queremos animar a todo el mundo a coger un libro y a leer, ¡todos juntos será más divertido!. #MBCossío #EducaciónPrimaria
